Why a food Blog?
Cooking in our home while growing up was a chore born out of the necessity to eat. My mom enjoyed making a few of her favorite dishes but mostly she cooked because she had a duty to feed Dad and us kids. It was, while a teenager in high school, I landed a job at the Captain’s Table restaurant in North Olmsted, OH where I became a short order cook and I liked it! During one summer in addition to the Captain’s Table I was a steak cook at the Peach Tree Restaurant in Bay Village. I enjoyed cooking so much I asked to take Home Economics in school so I could learn more about cooking and baking. Gordon Boddy, the principle at the time, called me into his office to discuss my request for Home Econ. He told me to stop being a smart ass and get back into a shop class where boys belong..
So I have enjoyed cooking for a long time. I enjoy the process of cooking, the artistry of cooking, discussing cooking and food, grocery shopping and most of all I enjoy sharing a meal I have prepared. Cooking satisfies my artistic and creative needs. What I especially like about cooking is that, as an art form, it involves all of our senses (taste, smell, sight, sound and feel).
I thought it was time to get off of my duff and share my love for cooking and food with other like-minded people and with those who are cooking challenged but what to move forward. In setting up this blog site I did not intend this to be a one way conversation, instead I am looking for interaction between me the ‘blogger” and you the ‘bloggee” (is that even a word?) To make this site work as planned I need participation from you. I have ultimate control over what gets posted on this site but I really want to give you a chance to share your thoughts and experiences on cooking and food, share favourite receipts (I am especially interested in heirloom receipts) clue us in on where to eat etc.
The site, like me, is a work in progress, please be patient and let me have feedback.
